Unique Gifts For Mother Of The Groom

Author: Anna Hart

A wedding is a joyous occasion, and an occasion when gifts are exchanged among many different people. Guests and bridal party members give gifts to the bride and groom. The bridal couple gives gifts to the wedding party and to the bride's mother. Some couples do not give a gift to the mother of the groom. It is entirely proper to do so, however, and will go far toward alleviating feelings that the mother of the groom is in the background.

Unique gifts for the mother of the groom may be purchased, but the most unique gift a bridal couple can give her is personal attention. Only you can show that you have time for her on your special occasion. Before you get too caught up in the day, plan a heart-felt gift that only you can give.

The French custom of the groom walking his mother down the aisle is a lovely, unique gift that she will always remember. The bride and her father walk the aisle together. Give similar attention to the mother of the groom.

Order a lovely bouquet of her favorite flowers to be delivered the morning "after" your wedding. She will appreciate your thoughtfulness. Be sure it includes a sincere thank you for her part in the wedding.

In addition to your personal touch, give her a unique gift you have purchased. We've gathered a few ideas here to help you.

Unique Gifts for Mother of the Groom - Sentimental

Since the mother of the groom will usually cry at the wedding, give her a unique gift that is sentimental, and that she can cherish forever. A dainty handkerchief in linen and lace can be embroidered with the words, "Mother of the Groom" to make it uniquely hers.

A necklace with a tiny bouquet of silver forget-me-not flowers is another unique gift. Its gentle message is that she will not be forgotten, even though her son is married and starting his own family.

Visit the CafePress store online, and create a unique gift featuring Mom's favorite photo of the couple, or simply a gift bearing your wedding date and names. Use your imagination to style a mug with the words "Mother-of-the-groom" and a photo of Mom.

Your personalized keepsake is always a unique gift. Write a poem, or choose one that expresses your feelings. Add your names, and have it etched on a scalloped block of clear Lucite with a display stand.

Unique Gifts for Mother of the Groom - Stylish

If the mother of the groom is a business woman, and regularly carries business cards, a unique gift might be a personalized business card case. Have it engraved with the initials, MOG. Few people will understand the initials, but she will think of you every time she uses it.

Purchase a decorative crystal bud vase and have it engraved for a unique gift. You might put her initial in flowing script near the top, with your names and wedding date at the bottom.

For a mother of the groom who always has a key in her hand, give her a heart locket key chain. Be sure the heart locket is large enough for an engraved message such as "Our hearts are always with you." Put your photo inside, and you have a unique gift that no one else could give.

Unique Gifts for Mother of the Groom - Amusing

If the groom's mother has a sense of humor and enjoys a good play on words, you might give her a lovely make-up set for "groom"-ing. Ornate, silver-tone make-up brushes in a black satin case would make a unique gift. A silver compact, engraved with her name, would also be fitting, either with the brushes or alone.

A medal of honor might also be appreciated as a unique gift for the mother of the groom. The Bridal People website offers an amusing medal of honor to be awarded the mother of the groom for surviving the wedding. Hanging from a ribbon, their medallion weaves together the initials M.O.G., and spells out Mother of the Groom in small letters across the top.

Tip: Unique gifts for the mother of the groom, or for anyone, are usually a result of coupling your imagination with your knowledge of the gift recipient.

Jewelry Trends in Different Countries

Author: Robert Frechette

This week we are going to take a look at jewelry trends in different cultures and countries.  We will of course look back at history to see how it helped mold the jewelry fashion industry into what it is today.  We will focus on specific countries throughout this week and then showcase of few of Gilbert and Frech’s uniquely original designs and see how the influence of style and culture helped to create them.

Some of the earliest pieces of jewelry that were created out of precious metals and gemstones were found in the country of Egypt.  Egyptians mainly used gold and fashioned many items out of this very malleable metal such as armlets, bracelets, head adornments, rings, earrings and even collars.  Greece also was making their own fashion trends during the BC era and the trend at that time was using beads and designing them into shapes that represented nature such as flowers, shells or beetles.  Greece was wealthy with raw materials and started adorning their jewelry with precious gemstones such as rubies, emeralds and pearls.  Pearls became the most prized and precious gemstone in jewelry.  The most rare and beautiful were found in South India and the Persian Gulf.  During the 17th century is when jewelry became an adornment that was acceptable in everyday use.  France was a great influence on the jewelry industry during the early 1800’s.  Victorian jewelry became popular as Queen Victoria reigned and it began to be massed produced and sold all over the world.  During the 1950’s America made its mark with what people would refer to as the Hollywood influence.

Over the years many countries had their influence over the style and trends of jewelry.  As it was created and shipped to different parts of the world, other cultures added their own unique flare.  It will be fun to take a look this week at specific countries and see what the popular jewelry trend is in their culture today!  Will it be similar to what is popular here in America or will it be completely unique and different?  The world has become smaller with the birth of the internet.  Every kind of information is available to us know with just the tapping of our fingertips.  Just like that, we can type in and order whatever kind of jewelry we like from whatever country or culture we want.  It is truly an amazing thing.

When to Sell Gold Jewellry Timing Matters

Author: Liz Hendricks

Sell gold jewellry; it seems like everybody is talking about it. The Associated Press reported mass sell-offs in London and New York: "People formed long lines outside jewelry stores, clutching old coins, candlesticks, watches, bowls—anything that contained gold or silver." It seems you can’t watch television or drive down the road these days without seeing an infomercial or billboard urging you to sell gold jewellry.

If you are seriously considering how to sell gold jewellry, my suggestion is don't focus so much on the "how." Instead, the smart way to sell gold jewellry is to pay attention to the "when." Timing is critical when you sell gold jewellry to ensure that you get the best price for your unwanted items and have a fast, safe, and reliable transaction.

Here are a few market conditions that affect the timing of when to sell gold jewellry for maximum profit:

* Gold price - this one is pretty self-explanatory, but note that prices to sell gold jewellry are hovering around the all time high in late 2008 and early 2009.

* Demand for your items - the more viable buyers there are equals more competition and ultimately drives the prices up benefiting you, the gold seller. In the past, volume gold buyers only dealt with Fortune 500 companies and brokerage firms, but recently that trend has changed and now the public can also sell gold jewellry and reap the highest financial rewards available.

* Ease of sale - this one is personal and regionally driven, but basically how much hassle, time, and inconvenience is it for you to sell gold jewellry?

* Knowledge of selling options - another personal factor that determines what selling routes you have available and again, how easy is it to sell gold jewellry?

The best news if you want to sell gold jewellry, is that the timing is almost perfect right now. Demand is very high and prices are skyrocketing. New consumer-friendly gold buyers simplify the sales process and bring the transaction right into your living room and onto your computer. With fast, stream-lined systems to get cash in your hands quickly and painlessly, there is really no reason not to sell gold jewellry today.

Here is the simple 3 step process on how to sell gold jewellry, silver, platinum, and other precious metals.

Step #1 - Answer a few questions on a website. This takes about 30 seconds. You will receive a free information kit in the mail to sell gold jewellry. In the meantime, dig through your jewelry box and or sock drawer and gather up any old gold, silver, or platinum (scratched, bent or broken, any condition is OK).

Note: There are no strings attached and you are under no obligation to sell gold jewellry until you choose to return your items in step #2.

Step #2 - Drop your unwanted items into the postage prepaid, secure shipping folder and return via US mail.

Step #3 - In about 24 hours, you receive a cash payment for your items.

It's really just that easy to sell gold jewellry and cash in on the new gold rush. Join the growing list of satisfied customers who sell gold jewellry from the comfort of their home today.

How To Make A Tin Cup Necklace

Author: Kendall

The tin cup necklace is one of the most popular pieces of wedding jewelry and bridal jewelry. Although very affordable, a tin cup necklace is easy to make. Read this article to learn how to make your very own tin cup necklace. Enjoy!

Supplies

First you need to know what all is required to make a tin cup necklace. A beading chain is needed. The beading chain can be either sterling silver or 14kt gold filled. If you want your tin cup necklace to be 16" or 18", then cut the beading chain to the desired length. You will also need 9 pearls. 9 pearls will create a 16" necklace. These pearls can either be 6mm or 8mm. Swarovski makes the best quality pearl at the most affordable price, so I reccommend buying Swarovski pearls. Swarovski pearls also come in many different colors, so you have many options to choose from. You will also need crimp beads. If the chain is gold filled, it's best to use gold filled crimp beads, likewise for sterling silver beading chain, use sterling silver crimp beads. There will be a crimp bead on each side of every pearl which means you will need eighteen crimp beads. A lobster claw end and a hoop end are the rest of the supplies that are needed. I've assumed you are familiar with jewelry making and don't need to talk about the tools needed.

Designing

First you need to slide all 9 pearls onto the beading chain. If you have a hard time getting the pearls onto the beading chain, ream out the pearls to make the holes a little larger so they will be able to slide freely on the beading chain. Crimp the middle pearl first so that you can have a started point and that the rest of the tin cup necklace will be symmetrical. Crimp both crimp beads, one on each side of the pearl. Then space each pearl around .5" to 1" apart and crimp them. Once your done crimping all the crimp beads and all the pearls are in place, it's time to attach the lobster claw end and the hoop end. This is very simple. It is important to note that you need to be gentle with your crimping because if you mash down too hard the beading chain will get a kink in it and will be no good.

Other Ways

Another way of making a tin cup necklace is to put the pearls and crimp beads on the beading chain and crimp the middle pearl first. After crimping the middle pearl, crimp the two end pearls. This will help in keep the tin cup neckalce symmetrical.

Well, I hope this helps you to create your very own tin cup necklace! Best Wishes, Kendall

Diamond Necklaces - Georgian Necklaces

Author: Jewish Talyor

Diamond necklaces, like other jewelry of the Georgia period, were handmade. These design period in jewelry occurred at the same time as the reign of the four English kings who gave their name to the period, namely about 1714 through 1830.

Diamond necklaces from this period reflected the desire to experiment with new designs, new metals, and new ways of cutting the diamonds. At the onset of the Georgian period, diamonds were the gemstone of choice, so diamond necklaces were very popular. The demand for diamond lookalikes was so strong that a whole industry grew up using paste, rock crystal, cut steel, and marcasite (iron pyrite) as substitutes for the real thing. Even royalty was not adverse to wearing the fakes, since they were so well done.

Diamond necklaces from the early Georgian period often used large stones set in an elaborate rococo style. This placed emphasis on shell like curves, the same as found in many of the buildings created in the style. Elsewhere it was also called Baroque, or even the French style. The main characteristics are the size, the arcs and curves, and further, asymmetric designs.

As Georgian period progressed, diamond necklaces moved from rococo to Gothic revival and on to neoclassical in architecture as well in jewelry. Not many pieces are found today in Georgian style. Knowledge of the appearance mostly is from portraits commissioned during the times.

A fairly consistent giveaway in detecting Georgian era diamond necklaces is often the way in which the diamonds are mounted. Today, diamonds are often set in open work but Georgian gems typically were set over silver or gold foil and the backs of the diamonds were enclosed in metal in the same way in which rhinestones typically are mounted today. In fact, foil backing in today's jewelry pieces nearly always indicates that the stone is fake.

Other common features of Georgian diamond necklaces included gold work that was flat and low, diamonds that were backed with foil, and bezel mounting. Often enameling of black and white or cobalt blue was used. Charles Pinchbeck, an English watchmaker created a zinc and copper alloy which was used as a substitute for gold.

During the years of the Georgian period, diamond cutters set their skills to producing exciting new gem cuts which were displayed in the diamond necklaces created by the artisans. The brilliant cuts, cushion cut and rose cut all found favor with the public.

Power Pendants : Control your destiny

Author: Shefali Roy

What would one say if one went to his or her doctor because of suffering with a cold and fever, and were prescribed a tonic that contained crushed gemstones as a cure by the doctor? It does sound quite absurd but it is true. There was a time when this would not seem too unusual to man. Several hundred years ago, most medicines contained a combination of gemstones as curatives for a wide range of diseases.

It is a fact that people hardly have time to focus on one thing at a time these days. For example, a computer is a machine which is known for its multitasking ability. But it tends to get slow while performing two to three tasks simultaneously. So, it is quite possible in case of an ordinary man. Despite of this, a person still has to think about his family along with the upbringing of one's professional life. This could be a reason why a person would need that extra faith or power through which he gets motivated, and this faith could be in the form of a power ring pendant or any other piece of jewellery. Now if a person think about power pendant he does not need to go anywhere any gem speciaslist or something like that. If he is aware of internet usability he can buy online power pendant immediately.

The special Power Pendants are formed after a rigorous scientific process. These are basically composed of five metals which are Gold, Silver, Copper, Iron and Zinc. These five metals are referred together as 'Panchdhaatu' (5 metals, when translated into English). All these metals are taken in their most refined form, in proportions based on the requirement of the Zodiac Sun Signs. For example, the composition and proportion of these metals meant for the Zodiac Sign Leo would be different from that required for the Zodiac Sign Libra.

These metals are then melted, fermented and then melted all over again. After this, they are remixed and agitated carefully over a substantial period of six months. It is a long and systematic process, which gives great power and positive energy to the Zodiac Power Pendants. This power and energy gets translated to the person who wear this pendant and remove mental anxieties, stress related problems, re-energizes one's will power and helps them to concentrate more better. Along with all this, one can notice more boldness and assertiveness in a person. This power influences your entire thought and decision making process in a positive manner.

There are so many colours for power pendants which you can also wear in any occasion. One can see Egyptian jewellery to be the most beautiful semi-precious gemstones and minerals set in pure gold and sterling silver. These gems come in different colours like blue, red, green, amber, turquoise, and yellow. One can find stones like amethyst, beryl, feldspar, garnet, lapis, opal and turquoise in power pendants as well as rings.

Purple, which is the colour of amethyst, represents wealth and royalty. Garnet is a deep red or fiery red gemstone which is famous for its power and energy. But one needs a perfect guide to learn about the appropriate stone and colour. One should take care while searching for such power pendants. This item is always available in stores and dealers that specialize in quality gemstones. It is an easy task to look for good stones in the local markets nowadays and of course the internet also provides one with a satisfactory collection of fine pendants.
